Carol Vorderman, 63, opens up on romance with 'special friends' as she gives up on love

3 weeks ago 2

Carol Vorderman, despite her friends' attempts to set her up with men, is adamantly against the idea of marriage. The twice-divorced former Countdown presenter turned political activist has no plans to tie the knot again.

"No, I don't want that," she confessed to Saga Magazine. "I have a few men I see every now and again, men I have known for years" Even those closest to her can't fathom her contentment in solitude.

"Even my closest friends will still say to me, 'What about so and so?'," she revealed. At 63, Carol is comfortable in her own skin and savours the freedom of single life.

"If I want to go on a cruise on the fjords I'll happily go on my own - I don't feel I need to have a partner. I'm happy with my life, happy with my own company," Carol asserts. "I'm looking forward to what is coming next", reports the Express.

Carol has "special friends" and isn't looking for love

She does occasionally date, but "Not as often as people probably think." Instead, she maintains a casual group of "friends with benefits" for companionship when needed.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning back in 2022, she stated: "Our mothers told us that we should marry when we were still 18 or 19 or 20, so we grew up with that convention that you should find one partner for life. My view is not quite like that."

She would be happy on her own - and doesn't need a man

"Half of first marriages end in divorce, and nearly three-quarters of second marriages end in divorce. So I prefer to live my life in chapters."

Some of those chapters in her life feature a bevy of blokes: "I have ignored the looking for one person and I have a number of what I've called 'special friends'," she dished. "They don't know each other, but they know about it. It's a very honest relationship."

This open strategy seems to be a winning ticket – Carol has been with one lad for over ten years – outlasting both of her marriages! Plus, one of her "special friends" really is out of this world: "He's an astronaut," she revealed.

"He rang me from the space station" She notes that there's no thirst for a fleeting romp with a young stallion; the men who see her are after something with a bit more substance: "They're not looking for love, they're looking for companionship, looking for friendship, it may turn into love. The age is really immaterial, but my experience suggests that somebody roughly in your age bracket. You have more in common."
