The cast of Christopher Nolan‘s latest film is getting increasingly stacked. Charlize Theron is the latest A-lister to join the cast of the top secret film, according to multiple media reports.
She joins a cast that — still reportedly on all cases — includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson, the latter of whom was reported to have joined last week.
Her casting brings the number of Oscar winners in the cast up to four. We’re surprised Nolan hasn’t found roles for Cillian Murphy or Kenneth Branagh just yet.
Universal had no comment on the casting news.
There’s also still no word on the logline or description of the film, and reports have suggested that all the rumors floating around on the web (some have guessed a vampire thriller, a father-son drama, or action movie) have been dead wrong.
Nolan though is writing and directing, and he’s also producing the film with his partner Emma Thomas through their Syncopy production banner. This is his 13th feature and his second at Universal after leaving Warner Bros. and winning Best Picture with “Oppenheimer.” He left his long-time studio over how his movie “Tenet” was released during the pandemic and how the prior administration pushed to release films day-and-date on HBO Max.
Universal is releasing Nolan’s film July 17, 2026 in theaters and IMAX. The project will begin shooting in early 2025.
Theron, who has yet to star in a Nolan film, last starred in “Fast X” in 2023 and will soon be seen in “The Old Guard 2.” She’s next meant to begin shooting “Apex” at Netflix alongside Taron Egerton.
Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” won seven Oscars and grossed nearly $1 billion at the box office. It’s clear that with that pedigree Nolan now has the leash to do whatever — and work with whomever — he wants.
