Cheryl was spotted attending the funeral of Liam Payne, who tragically passed away over a month ago in Argentina. The One Direction star's loved ones gathered to mourn the 31 year old, who tragically fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16.
Three individuals have since been charged in relation to Liam's death, who first shot to fame as an aspiring singer on The X Factor. Liam met his former One Direction bandmates and ex-partner Cheryl on the talent show, with them leading the mourners at his funeral today.
While Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were seen entering the church, Cheryl chose to avoid the press. The singer entered through a concealed entrance at the back of the building to pay her respects.
At the time of Liam's death, Cheryl posted that she was going through an "indescribably painful time". Cheryl and Liam remained close after their split in 2018, co-parenting their son Bear.
A heartbreaking floral tribute spelling out 'Daddy' was seen alongside Liam's coffin, which arrived at the Home Counties church in a horse-drawn carriage. Following Liam's death, Cheryl vowed to "make sure" their son Bear knows all about his late father, reports the Mirror.
Cheryl, who was in a high-profile relationship with Payne between 2016 and 2018, stated on Instagram that their son has to "face the reality of never seeing his father again".
Cheryl, mourning the devastating loss of Payne, took to social media with a heartfelt black and white photograph of him cuddling up with their son in bed. In her emotional post, she expressed, "As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being."
"Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again."
Liam held Cheryl in high esteem as a mother, often saying she was 'the best mum in the world' and credited her for balancing his music career with fatherhood.
The star, whose son's privacy has been fiercely guarded, previously let his fans in on his fatherhood journey, "I put my time in with my son and I also like to speak to people who are new dads also because you don't know what's coming and it's different."
Acknowledging the personal sacrifices for his role as a dad, he confessed, "And, you know, to be honest with you, it ruined a relationship for me at that point but for all the right reasons, and it's like you think kids are a blank page [when] they're born. When Bear was first born I was so excited for him to be born, but I thought, what if I don't love him enough? It was such a worry for me."
While appearing on The Impaulsive podcast, he revealed that although his son resided full-time with Cheryl due to his ongoing career commitments, he always ensured his presence for his son. At the time of his passing, he had been in a relationship with influencer Kate Cassidy for two years.
