Sing Sing actor Colman Domingo will receive the actor Spotlight Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, it was announced on Monday.

The film awards will take place on Jan. 3, 2025, with the festival running from Jan. 2 to Jan. 13.

“We are so thrilled to honor the remarkable talent of Colman Domingo at the Palm Springs International Film Awards for the second year in a row. In Sing Sing, Colman Domingo delivers another outstanding performance based on the true story of the wrongfully convicted Divine G, who finds purpose in prison through stage acting,” says Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi. “For this incredibly raw and captivating performance, it is our honor to present the Spotlight Award, Actor to Colman Domingo.”

Domingo received the honor last year for his performance in Rustin, for which he also received an Academy Award nomination for best actor. Past recipients of the actor Spotlight Award include Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Brendan Fraser for The Whale and Andrew Garfield for Hacksaw Ridge, all three of whom were also nominated for best actor at the Oscars — Fraser won.

Domingo’s credits include Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, for which he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and SAG Ensemble Award, as well as Zola, for which he received Spirit Award and Gotham Award nominations. He won an Emmy in 2022 for his performance in Euphoria. His other credits include If Beale Street Could Talk, Without Remorse, Candyman, Assassination Nation, True Crime, Selma and Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

He will next star in the limited series The Madness for Netflix on Nov. 28, as well as in Michael, in which he plays Joe Jackson. He will also star in the Netflix Tina Fey comedy The Four Seasons. He is represented by WME, Liebman Entertainment and Wolf-Kasteler Public Relations.

Last week, the festival announced that Emilia Pérez would receive this year’s Vanguard Award, which is “a group honor distinguishing a film’s cast and director in recognition of their collective work on an exceptional film project.”
