Colson Smith's future in doubt: Fans fear podcast exit following Coronation Street departure announcement

Actor Colson Smith has sparked concern his Coronation Street exit isn't the only work commitment he is stepping back from.

The Celebrity Big Brother star, 26, recently revealed his time on the ITV soap will come to an end this summer after 14 years playing Weatherfield's resident copper. Colson's social media statement announcement on Monday led to many of his fans asking the same question.

Sharing a snap of himself in character as Craig posing in front of the Rovers Return, Colson told his 207,000 Instagram followers: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinkers time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025. I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.

The actor, who joined the soap at just 11 years old, continued: "I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy. For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!"

Colson currently hosts a podcast with his fellow Coronation Street actors Jack P. Shepherd and Ben Price, who play David Platt and Nick Tilsley on the cobbles. Due to Colson's pending Corrie departure, fans of On The Sofa with Colson, Jack and Ben, fans fear the actor may also quit the podcast.

"Noooooo how will the podcast work now? Cause we all know @jackpshepherd88 doesn’t talk to people who leave the show," one Instagram user commented underneath Colson's exit announcement on Monday. "Does this mean that jack will no longer speak to you as you’ll have left which will make it hard to continue the pod," another joked as a third asked: "What will happen to the podcast?!?"

On The Sofa with Colson, Jack and Ben describe their show as "the podcast with them 3 best mates from Corrie" - something that might change once Colson bids farewell to Corrie. "Grab a seat 'On The Sofa' with Colson Smith, Jack P. Shepherd and Ben Price as they tell stories about their lives, work and everything in-between... from the silly to the outrageous, the Corrie actors catch up every week before discussing a film, series or documentary that they've all watched in the last 7 days," the official description reads. The show's Instagram account reposted Colson's exit announcement on Monday night, adding: "Our king. An exciting next chapter to come."

New Corrie boss Kate Brooks previously hinted at dramatic cast changes in 2025, dropping a bombshell last month: "There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves." The soap has seen several departures recently; Craig's on-screen mother, Beth Tinker, played by Lisa George, left in the summer, and Helen Worth bid farewell to her role as Gail Platt at Christmas after five decades. Now, Sue Cleaver, known to millions as Eileen Grimshaw for 25 years, is reportedly set to exit the show.
