David Tennant has revealed he's got a tattoo at the age of 53.

The Doctor Who and Rivals star showed off his new inking in a snap taken by tattoo artist Sym, who inscribed a 'G' on David's wrist in a sweet tribute to his actress wife Georgia Moffett. It's believed to be a present for Georgia's upcoming 40th birthday, which is on Christmas Day. It's also their 13th wedding anniversary on New Year's Eve.

Taking to Instagram to unveil David's new body art, Sym - who goes by the Instagram handle @theflavouroftears - shared a snap with David and wrote: "Cat’s out the bag - it was an honour to make this special ‘G’, in the font Georgia for David Tennant’s first tattoo. A wonderful ode to @georgiatennantofficial for her birthday.

"Funfact: one of the first ever tattoos I made was ‘BadWolf’ so this was a wonderful full circle moment and brings this year’s tattoos to a close. As a Queer Non-binary artist, David and Georgia’s allyship and activism for our community has been a shining light and I’m very grateful to have curated this tattoo and look forward to continuing to make special tattoos for special people. See you all in the New Year, lots of love, Sym."

David and Georgia met on the set of Doctor Who in 2008 after she auditioned for a part on the sci-fi series. She was cast as Jenny, in the episode, 'The Doctor's Daughter' – and in real life Georgia is the daughter of actor Peter Davison, who formerly played the fifth time lord from 1981 to 1984.

Sparks flew on set, with Georgia in particular admitting she was smitten. But their romance almost didn't happen. Speaking on Gaby Roslin's podcast, which she appeared on alongside husband David in 2020, she confessed: "I very much forced it into happening, didn't I? I was very much the driving force. Had I not worked quite so hard, it might not have happened."

David replied: "That makes it sound like I was resistant, which was not what happened. I thought we were an unlikely life partnership, I suppose. There is a bit of an age gap. Because Doctor Who had run through my life like a stick of rock, to end up marrying the daughter of one of the Doctors, it all felt a bit stupid... that wasn't really likely to happen. So there were a lot of things against it."

But despite his initial reservations, David is glad he followed his heart and says he now feels like he 'lucked out'. He gushed: "There's a great Tim Minchin song, 'If I didn't have you someone else would probably do'… but I certainly feel like I lucked out. You reach a point of your life when you're looking for someone and it's sort of chance which version of that perfect partner ambles along."

The couple have been loved up ever since and married in 2011. They also have five children - Olive, 12, Wilfred, ten, Doris, eight, and four-year-old Birdie. And David adopted Georgia's eldest son Ty, 21, who she has from a previous relationship. To mark their 10th wedding anniversary in 2021, Georgia shared some never seen before snaps of their big day and wrote: "The happiest day followed by the happiest life. Thanks DT."
