There is a beauty pageant that is above all others, since the woman who manages to win could be considered the most beautiful on the planet. That is the prize awarded by Miss Universe 2024. This will be the 73rd edition, where more than 130 women representing their countries will have to pass the different tests to win the crown.
But not everything is rosy, since its creation in 1952, controversies have also plagued the pageant or people in its environment. Even more so, if the former owner is one of the most controversial people in the world, none other than the former president of the United States, Donald Trump.
The tycoon, of course, left his mark on the event in the way he does best, with shadows for it. By 1996, the last winner of the US election had bought the pageant's organization, so he was in total control.
Alicia Machado and the hell she went through with Donald Trump during her reign
In that edition, the Venezuelan Alicia Machado managed to win the crown that awarded her the title of Miss Universe 1996. A great reason for happiness that was marred by the conflicts she later had with Donald Trump.
With the 19-year-old winner at the time, she had to deal with a lot of offensive comments from Trump. This attitude of the owner of the contest at the time was due to the fact that Machado had gained a little weight, so he put her to exercise in front of the cameras.
Donald defined her with nicknames such as "Miss Piggy" or "eating machine", something that seriously affected Alicia Machado's mental health. However, the darkest part of the whole situation that the 1996 winner had to go through was when she revealed, through a complaint against him, that Trump tried to have sex with her during her reign.
