Drake, Steph Curry Embrace Before Toronto Raptors-Golden State Warriors Game

Contrary to his 2021 record, the 6 God still has some friends in the industry.

Under normal circumstances, a rapper sitting courtside at a basketball game and being greeted by an NBA player isn’t a major headline. However, given all that took place between Kendrick Lamar and Drake last year, Steph Curry embracing the Toronto superstar warrants layers of discourse.

The Toronto Raptors matched up with the Golden State Warriors on Monday evening (Jan. 13) at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Drizzy attended as he normally does, and the four-time NBA champion went over to show him love before they spoke for a bit. Naturally, the video cycled all around social media and led people to question the validity of K. Dot’s “Meet The Grahams” diss track from May 2024.

“The Embassy ’bout to get raided too, it’s only a matter of time/ Ayy, LeBron, keep the family away, hey, Curry, keep the family away/ To anybody that embody the love for their kids, keep the family away/ They lookin’ at you too if you standin’ by him, keep the family away/ I’m lookin’ to shoot through any pervert that lives, keep the family safe,” the Compton artist rapped. Despite Lamar’s warnings and the 6 God being less favored than ever before in the public eye, Curry is seemingly ignoring all warnings and is still maintaining his friendship with the five-time Grammy winner.

Drake and Steph Curry have had a relationship for some years, between name-drops in songs and public outings. They have also been “rivals,” like when the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors met in the 2019 NBA Finals. Nonetheless, their friendship remains, despite multiple people turning their backs on the For All The Dogs artist.

“I’m a big Drake guy. I’ve been for a long time,” the superstar guard told GQ Sports last year. “I think obviously you know what it is for the rap industry to have [the rap beef], but I still rock with Drake. Absolutely. Absolutely.” Curry was caught on camera expressing that he was tired of hearing Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” during the 2024 Olympics, while LeBron James expressed the opposite. Thus, OVO fans have especially propped up the Warriors hooper since he has stayed loyal, despite King James seemingly doing the opposite.

Drizzy congratulated the 2024 Men’s Olympic basketball team on winning their gold medal by posting photos of Curry, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker, but noticeably omitted LBJ. Another element of their relationship was the claim that Steph’s wife, Ayesha, is cousins with OVO Mark, according to Victoria Hernandez of Kick The Concrete. If that were true, that would make the friends even closer to being family members. Nonetheless, it doesn’t look like Steph will be turning on the “Family Matters” rapper any time soon, regardless of how the world feels about him or any ties beyond their relationship.
