2024 was a crazy year for the British royal family, to put it lightly. Two members of the family, King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed they had a type of cancer. Luckily, Catherine, who also frequently goes by Kate Middleton, revealed halfway through the year that she had completed chemotherapy, and by 2025, she was in remission. But in 2024, we barely saw Kate, with her only coming out with the family a handful of times. Each time, though, she still stunned with her iconic fashion choices, and one royal expert reveals how Kate altered her wardrobe to hide her chemotherapy port.

Hello Magazine royal style writer Georgia Brown claimed that Kate utilized her knack for recycling and upcycling clothes to hide her chemotherapy port, also known as a portacath. Before she revealed she was done with chemotherapy in Sept 2024, she only made two appearances: at Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon alongside her daughter Princess Charlotte.

A chemo port is a small implantable device that goes in your upper arm, chest, arm, or abdomen that connects to the vein to help uphold your treatments; and her two outings seemingly hid them masterfully.

Brown wrote, “Her fashion choices made during this time were no doubt consciously chosen to subtly hide her port, whilst also giving the Princess the confidence to step out in front of the public and resume her public duties.”

Both of the looks mentioned had a textured front, which could’ve been a strategic way to hide the outline of her port on her chest. If you need a refresher, she donned a white Jenny Packham dress for Trooping the Colour, and had a large bow accent on the left side of her chest.

One month later, she arrived at the Wimbledon final in a Safiyaa London gown that had a ruffled top and a bow, also masterfully hiding anything underneath.

In 2025, Kate has been going out more and more, once again wowing everyone with her iconic fashion; and this time, since she’s in remission, there’s no need to hide a port!
