Brits are on a mission to slash their energy bills, and with the cost of living biting hard, knowing your home's biggest energy guzzlers is key. An expert has dished out the dirt on which appliances are cranking up your bills and it's not looking good for your trusty washer-dryer.
Chris Madikian, an electrical whizz from The Local Electrician, has pinpointed the five "key offenders" that are likely behind those eye-watering energy bill spikes.
The savvy pro didn't just name and shame; he's also thrown in some top tips to help you keep more cash in your pocket as we roll into the New Year.

Topping the list of power-munching culprits is the washer-dryer, which could be costing you a hefty £104.13 annually.
Madikian warns: "These appliances account for approximately 12 per cent of a typical energy bill, making them among the most energy-hungry in any household. The high usage of water and electricity required to heat it, combined with lengthy cycles, makes these appliances expensive to operate."
He advises: "Opt for cold-water washes, run full loads, use heated clothes airers and, if possible, air-dry clothes to significantly cut down on energy consumption."
2. Tumble dryer
A lifesaver in the nippy months, but tumble dryers are no friend to your wallet, chomping through about 11 per cent of the typical energy bill due to the sheer power needed to get your clothes dry. Instead of shelling out nearly £100 a year to run it, the experts recommend trying heated clothes airers instead.
3. Chest freezer
The expert explained: "A chest freezer operates continuously and uses a significant amount of energy to maintain a steady temperature, accounting for eight per cent of an average household's energy expenditure. Regularly defrost your freezer, ensure door seals are intact, and maintain an optimal -18C for maximum efficiency."
4. Fridge-freezer
This kitchen essential is notorious for causing your energy bills to skyrocket because it's on 24/7. Remember to keep the fridge at 4C and try not to open the door too often to keep things running smoothly and efficiently.
5. Washing machine.
Can't live without it, can we? But washing machines gobble up a hefty chunk of energy, especially when you're using hot water cycles. They're responsible for about seven per cent of the energy costs in a home.
To pocket some extra cash, switch to cooler washes, always wait for a full load and skip the pre-wash option to slash those energy bills.
The electrical whizz stressed: "As energy costs continue to rise, being aware of the most energy-intensive appliances in our homes, and knowing how to use them efficiently, can lead to substantial savings."
"By making small adjustments like washing clothes in cold water or adjusting fridge temperatures, homeowners can not only lower their bills but also reduce their environmental impact. It's all about making smarter choices with the devices we rely on every day."
