Freddie Gibbs has unleashed his new album, You Only Die 1nce.
The Indiana rapper's follow-up to 2022's Soul Sold Separately, his first solo record released through a major label, sees him going back to his roots with a stripped-down, lean tracklist with no credited features. It also serves as a sequel to his 2017 album You Only Live 2wice, reflecting the narrow focus of an artist looking to prove he's still got it.
Production varies across the record, with some Halloween-oriented cuts such as the opener "Status," and more R&B-influenced production on "Rabbit Island" or "Walk It Off." The record closes with the hard-hitting "On The Set," which sees him address the incarceration of Diddy and mourn Nipsey Hussle, Biggie, Tupac, and Rich Homie Quan.
Gibbs also shared the video for "On the Set," which you watch below.
In the lead-up to the album's release, Gibbs capitalized on Halloween evening arrival with a billboard featuring a number fans could call. When dialed, the number would play a message from Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund himself.
