A woman has gone viral after she called out the unrealistic social life expectations set by TV shows.

Chelsea Torres, from Honolulu, Hawaii, shared a clip on Instagram showing her having a quiet solo breakfast at home. The video's text read: "Adults having breakfast at a friend’s apartment before heading off to work is the biggest lie television ever told me."

She also added the caption "the show Friends really set me up for failure," nodding to the iconic series where the six main characters are always in and out of each other's apartments.

Her post (found under @life.w.chelc on Instagram) sparked a wave of comments from users who resonated with her discovery.

One user chimed in: "Seriously! Breakfast at each other apartments, lunch at a coffee shop that's nowhere near work, or being a chef who never worked nights."

Another said: "Adults having actual friends is the biggest lie they taught us." A commenter wrote: "You’re telling me someone got up early, showered, got dressed, did their hair, put on a whole suit and walked a block over to his sisters apartment that was never locked and then just raids their fridge for food in the morning and even rushed in and out because they are late and don’t think they should just go straight to work like a normal person? Why don't they just go straight to work like a normal person?"

Some users highlighted another apparent lie about grown-up life as shown on TV as one added: "I feel like adults having breakfast for work in general is a lie lol."

Another user posted: "And there's always lots of food on the table at breakfast but no one ever eats it. Everyone just rushes in and says, 'Gotta go!' Who the heck is cooking all this food?"

One person recounted their own Friends-esque living situation and claimed: "Lived in an apartment building with my friends, actually did that type of stuff."

Yet, not everybody's after the warm chaos of a sitcom social life, since someone wrote: "Sometimes when watching Friends, I think, ‘oh I wish I lived this life.

"My friends just randomly coming over every day’ and then I remember that I'm an introvert and that's my worst nightmare."
