Gen Z youngsters have never seen a string ‘must-see’ Hollywood blockbusters including Gladiator and Titanic, a survey found.
More than two in five under-28s are yet to watch Ridley Scott’s Roman epic, starring Russell Crowe as Colosseum hero Maximus in Gladiator, while a fifth have missed the boat when it comes to romantic disaster movie Titanic, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as star-crossed lovers aboard the doomed ship.
More than three in 10 Gen Zers are clueless about gripping jail drama The Shawshank Redemption, with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, and a whopping 57% haven’t bothered with Steven Spielberg’s moving Holocaust drama Schindler’s List.
The movies all finished in a top 10 ‘must-watch films before you die’, named by 2,000 UK adults surveyed by Showcase Cinemas.
Its marketing director Jon Dixon said: “Undoubtedly, there are some huge films from the past that the younger generation is yet to see.”
The poll was conducted to mark the release of Gladiator II, starring Normal People actor Paul Mescal, 28, as Maximus’s son.
Mr Dixon said: “It’s been a long wait for the sequel, so we’re looking forward to welcoming customers to our cinemas to be transported back to Roman times on the big screen.”
