Karen Huger, the Grand Dame of the Real Housewives of Potomac, has always known how to push her co-star’s buttons. Whether it is drawing attention away from her own issues to the other women or flat-out refuting what has been printed in court documents, Karen is a character. But not everyone is hunky dory with the idea of letting Karen slide. This is where Mia Thornton usually enters the conversation. Mia has been an open book about her divorce and love life. She expects the same from her friend in return.

Mia Thornton calls out Karen Huger

Karen’s DUI charges have been all over Season 9, complete with a Bravo reenactment. Even though Karen prefers to call them “allegations,” her DUI has cast a rather large shadow over the Real Housewives of Potomac. Viewers learned that the 61-year-old had been involved in an automobile incident in March 2024. In a recent episode, Blast from Everyone’s Past, it showed Mia throwing down the gauntlet as she inferred that Karen had admitted wanting to enter a rehab facility.

While talking with Ashley Darby and Jacqueline Blake, Mia noted she was still “concerned” for Karen’s well-being as she felt her friend hadn’t taken any responsibility for her actions. In the bedroom conversation, she called on the group to band together and take some action. Mia then asked Stacey Rusch if she knew who she was defending as she listed all the charges against her. Mia added, “I really think that we need to take her to rehab. We think she needs help.” Jacqueline added, “She’s endangering people’s lives.”

Fans think Mia Thornton went too far

Mia was forceful in her opinions, and she said, “Girl, just say you were drinking and driving.” Mia added that Karen always says, “‘Every year, I go through this cause I miss my mom.’ But guess what? You can’t sit here and run from it. And then you damn sure shouldn’t be bringing up anyone else’s sh*t if your sh*t stinks.” But some Real Housewives of Potomac fans feel the former stripper went too far. One follower pointed out, “I can’t believe Mia was trying to get Karen to own up to her DUI before her day in court. She doesn’t owe them nothing.” Another added, “Jacqueline and Mia are now making recommendations for treatment. Lord, help us.”

Karen Huger is tight-lipped

Stacey ran right to Karen to relay the bedroom chat. Karen didn’t seem surprised about the theme of the conversation, but to many Real Housewives of Potomac fans, it felt like the OG might be shaking in her boots. The fact is the charges against Karen are pretty serious. She was hit with negligent driving, endangering property, life, and person, and recklessly driving a vehicle. These charges could put her behind bars for a time of two months to one year, according to the Montgomery Court site. A jury trial is set to start on December 16.

In total, Karen is facing eight charges, and this is not her first offense. As Ashley pointed out in a confessional, “We know that Karen has had a DUI before, so I never thought that Karen would be a repeat offender with something like this. This is the same song and dance that I’ve seen from Karen.” Fans think, like in times before, the court system will go hard on Karen and make an example out of her. While some viewers think she deserves to be punished, others feel she might just need a softer hand.
