Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was reportedly standing by his side amid his legal drama with ex-fiancée Maya Henry before his shocking death.
“She had been super supportive of him through all the legal drama and very much stood by him,” a source close to Kate, 25, told People in an article published on Monday, October 21.
Less than two weeks before Liam died at the age of 31 on October 16, Maya, 23, took to TikTok on October 6 to allege that he had continued to “blow up” her phone after their split.
“It’s always from different phone numbers too. I never know where it’s going to come from . . . Also [he] will email me,” she claimed in the video. “Not only me, but he’ll blow up my mom’s phone. Is that normal behavior to you?”
Maya also claimed that her ex had been “messaging” her friends, adding, “I found out later so they could go over to his house apparently.”
She went on to claim that Liam “weaponized” One Direction fans against her. “He says that he ‘preys on One Direction fans because they will always be loyal to him and they won’t tell on him,’” the Looking Forward author alleged.
In addition to the allegations made in the TikTok video, The Daily Mail reported on October 14 that Maya asked lawyers to send a cease and desist letter to the “Night Changes” singer and accused him of consistently contacting her friends and family.
“Maya Henry issued a cease and desist last week to Liam Payne following the emergence of new and concerning information,” lawyers told the outlet at the time. “She has retained attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to represent her. At this time, that is her only comment on the matter.”
Liam and Maya started dating in 2019, and they got engaged in August 2020. The duo briefly called it quits for the first time in June 2021, though their split didn’t last long and they reconciled by the end of the year. It was revealed in May 2022 that Maya and Liam had called off their engagement for the second time after photos circulated online of him cuddling with Aliana Mawla.
Liam began dating Kate in 2022, and she was in Argentina with him just days before his death. Kate had left the South American country just days before Liam died after falling three stories from the hotel’s balcony. His autopsy later revealed that he had several drugs in his system at the time of his passing.
Two days after his death, Kate broke her silence on the matter by penning a tribute to Liam via her Instagram Stories. “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way,” she wrote in a text post. “I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
Kate then wrapped up the post by directly speaking to Liam. “Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam,” she said.
