The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City know how to put on a show. Four years into the franchise, and RHOSLC remains must-watch, top-tier reality television. RHOSLC Season 5 is no different. And while we weren’t entirely surprised to see our headline make the cut in the latest episode, comments made by Angie Katsanevas did throw us off! We’ve always championed the Greek Goddess, so for her to disparage our reporting? Well, let’s just say it stung. Here’s what went down, and how the drama between Meredith Marks and Shawn Trujillo involved one of our reports, and the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast…
What’s the RHOSLC Season 5 drama between Meredith Marks and Shawn Trujillo?
During RHOSLC Season 4, Meredith was accused of hinting at rumors suggesting Shawn was sleeping with other men. It’s a tired trope of this franchise, and viewers roundly dismissed the chatter as stupid gossip we could have done without hearing. It was in fact Monica Garcia who said the rumor out loud and in front of the cameras, while Meredith maintained she had no part to play. Still, she apologized for how everything went down.
Then, Meredith brought up the “hurtful” remarks made by Shawn on a podcast. Taking to the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast (embedded above), Shawn speculated that Meredith would “plant the seed” and then have somebody “run away with it.” He claims that was what she did with the suggestions he slept with men behind his wife’s back. But then, Shawn went further.
“And you know, she’s a smart woman,” he said, “and I think she took the opportunity to leverage her son and things like that, knowing that this didn’t quite land the way they wanted it to … I think she tried to leverage that as a sort of a way out and sort of a pivot for her.” This comment was in reference to Meredith filming scenes with her openly gay son Brooks. Shawn’s insinuation was clear; or so we thought.
How is Reality Tea involved in the latest RHOSLC Season 5 drama?
In November 2023, Reality Tea published an article with the headline: “RHOSLC’s Shawn Trujillo Accuses Meredith Marks of Using Her Son Brooks After Gay Rumors,” and it seems that caught the attention of Meredith and her husband, Seth Marks. So much so, that while Meredith and Seth went back-and-forth with Shawn in a recent episode, the article was used as evidence to prove the Marks’ couple’s point.
“Proof, beyotch!” Seth shouted at Whitney Rose, for some reason. Not a great look, Seth! But I digress.
“That’s like clickbait sh*t; what’s the f*cking comment?” Angie asked at the table, before her remarks moved to confessional. “A headline from a random blogs proves nothing,” she said. “She [Meredith] has way too much time on her hands, and she’s just looking for drama.”
Shawn then accuses Meredith of taking the comments “out of context,” before suggesting she listens to the entire podcast. Well, I did. And I stand by our article.
Where do we go from here, our beloved Angie K?
I don’t think we used clickbait in the way Angie suggested, and I think what Shawn was trying to imply in his podcast comments was abundantly clear. If he’d have owned that and apologized, this could have been put to bed right away.
We still love you though, Shawn and Angie K! Genuinely, you’re one of the best new additions to the franchise in recent history. Just next time, as Lisa Rinna would say, “Own it!”
Oh, and for the rest of the Real Housewives out there, let’s hang up this tired trope of questioning a husband’s sexuality for storyline, shall we? It’s 2024, sexuality shouldn’t be taboo, and none of us are Perez Hilton.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City continues Wednesdays on Bravo, and is streaming on Peacock.
