I'm A Celeb: Dean McCulloch emotional after quitting trial

Fans of I'm A Celeb have pledged to 'switch off' after making the same complaint about Dean McCullough. Viewers took to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their frustrations with Dean’s performance, particularly his involvement in challenges. Many are asking fans to stop voting for him to take part, claiming his efforts aren't entertaining enough.

Viewers believe that the radio presenter isn’t suited for the challenges and gives up too easily, particularly after his last trial where he famously said, “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here,” instead of pushing through to win more stars for his campmates.

One X user wrote: “There are 12 celebrities in the jungle, and you’re trying to tell me that people STILL want to see Dean do a trial… ESPECIALLY BY HIMSELF? Well, don’t blame me if he says ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’ in this task tomorrow.”

Another fan agreed, saying: “After all the effort and time gone into setting this up, the backstage team will be fuming if Dean says ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!’”

A third user added: “They don’t want Dean doing the trial because they know he will scream ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’ after 30 seconds, and that won’t make good TV.”

A fourth furious fan even threatened to stop watching the show entirely if Dean, 32, is assigned to another Bushtucker trial, saying: “F**k sake, I’m going to have to stop watching I’m A Celebrity now! Which fools keep voting for Dean to do these trials! Let someone else have a go! P***es me off.”

This all followed Dean’s first challenge last week, where he was locked into a mummy figurine and joined by sand, giant mealworms, and crickets. He started well, answering two questions correctly, but only managed to secure two stars before the challenge became too overwhelming. He then shouted the iconic line: “I’m a celebrity… get me out of here!”, ending the trial and earning just two stars.

While viewers may have wanted to see more, the trial was cut short due to Dean quitting, and the two stars meant the camp only received a rationed meal. However, his campmates didn’t seem too disappointed. WAG Rebecca Vardy wrote in her column for The Sun that this was likely because it was still early in the competition, and the longer the celebrities spent together, the more friction would develop, especially between those who fail to secure stars for the group, potentially leading to tension and conflict as the stakes grew higher.

Rebecca said: “The camp’s being really nice at the minute with failures, but I guarantee that it won’t last long. Everyone’s going to become ‘hangry,’ and the weather, if it carries on being wet and cold as it was last night, is really going to start affecting everyone’s mood.”
