I'm A Celeb: DJ Melvin Odoom arrives in Australia

Presenter Melvin Odoom has arrived in Australia this week ahead of his stint as a campmate on the new series of I'm A Celebrity, which is set to launch in just a few days.

Melvin, 44, will be a campmate on the ITV show, which returns next Sunday. They were spotted at Brisbane Airport on Monday, making him the seventh celebrity to have arrived ahead of the launch. His arrival in Brisbane comes after the line-up for the new series was unveiled on Monday evening.

The BBC Radio host and TV presenter teased upon his arrival: "It looks lovely here and it's warmer than home. I'm here for a bit of relaxing, nothing too strenuous." He added: "I've been camping before at festivals but I'm not really a tent guy."

Campmates began arriving in Australia over the weekend, with McFly's Danny Jones, 38, the first to be spotted at the airport. The musician's arrival came following reports that his flight had been delayed due to a thunderstorm.

Coronation Street cast member Alan Halsall, 42 - best known for playing Tyrone Dobbs - later landed at the airport himself. The actor was the second campmate to arrive in the country ahead of I'm A Celebrity's return.

N-Dubz member Tulisa Contostavlos, 36, became the third celebrity to arrive. The former X Factor judge's arrival came amid speculation that she is preparing to relaunch her music career after being a campmate.

BBC Radio 1 host Dean McCullough, 32, was the fourth campmate to be seen at the airport. He was spotted at Brisbane Airport on Monday and the presenter shared upon his arrival that it marked his first time visiting Australia. Following his arrival, podcast host GK Barry, 25 - whose real name is Grace Keeling - was the next celebrity to land in the country ahead of the launch. The content creator had already been seen at Heathrow Aiport on Sunday.

Former professional boxer Barry McGuigan, 63, was then the sixth campmate to arrive at the airport. He's said to have signed up for this year's I'm A Celebrity after former professional footballer Ally McCoist, 62, dropped out.

The line-up for the new series of I'm A Celebrity also includes former Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse, 34, TV personality Coleen Rooney, 38, and Loose Women panelist Jane Moore, 62. The final three campmates are expected to arrive in Australia on Tuesday (UK time).

Ant McPartlin, 48, and Dec Donnelly, 49, will return as hosts for the upcoming series. The presenting duo were both spotted in Australia over the weekend, with their reunion coming just a week before the launch is aired. I'm A Celebrity will be accompanied by companion show Unpacked, hosted by reigning winner Sam Thompson, 32, former campmate Joel Dommett, 39, and radio host Kemi Rodgers, 29. That show is set to feature behind-the-scenes gossip, unseen clips, exclusive interviews and more.

Campmate Coleen is hopeful that appearing on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will give people “a better idea of what kind of person I am”. The wife of former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, 38, has been embroiled in a high-profile libel battle with fellow footballer’s wife Rebekah Vardy, who previously competed on the ITV reality show in 2017.

When asked about the “biggest misconception” she wants to dispel, Rooney said: “I have been in the public eye for over 20 years now and people take what they want from it. I do think people will get a better idea of what kind of person I am.”

She was dubbed Wagatha Christie in 2019, when she accused Vardy, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, of leaking her private information to the press in a viral post on social media. In July 2022, a judge at the High Court found the post was “substantially true”.

Speaking about going on the programme, Rooney said: “It has been year after year I have been asked to go on a programme, and it’s always been a straight “no”. Over the years, there have been different things going on in my life and also, my children have been really young. But they are at an age now where I can go away for this length of time. I also feel it’s time to have a challenge for me and do something different. It has taken many, many years but I’m finally doing it. And I have always said, if I was going to do one – then it would be this show. I think it will be good for me.”

She also said that she watches I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! “every year”, and called it a “good family show”. “The most rewarding thing for me is the fact I have actually agreed to do it,” she added. “I am a really organised person and so to take myself away from that is going to be difficult. But I’ve got a very supportive family around me and I know everything is going to be fine.”

The new series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here starts on ITV next Sunday (November 17) at 9pm.
