Paramount has just released its first trailer for Dear Santa, a new Christmas-set comedy from in which accidentally addresses his letter intended for Santa Claus to “Satan,” instead. Have a look:
Directed exclusively by Bobby Farrelly (brother Peter is sitting is sitting this one out, apparently), the story concerns a young boy accidentally addressing his letter meant for Santa Claus to “Satan” Claus, instead, summoning the Prince of Darkness in the form of Jack Black (alongside his beard from the Minecraft movie, so we can guess these were filmed around the same time). Somehow–perhaps he’s just in good spirits this time of year–the Archfiend decides to grant the boy three wishes for his trouble, becoming his own personal hell-spawned genie/imaginary friend/wingman in the process. However, there’s always a catch with these sorts of things, and Satan hopes to reap the boy’s soul after his third wish is granted, but well– that’s Mephistopheles, for you. The concept here is sort of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy meets Jeff Leiberman’s Satan’s Little Helper by way of Little Monsters starring Howie Mandel and Fred Savage… on Christmas.
Co-starring alongside Black is Robert Timothy Smith the boy, Liam’ Keegan-Michael Key as a child psychologist; Post Malone making a cameo as himself’ and P.J. Byrne as a southern, kombucha- drinking bicyclist with intestinal problems.
If you’re excited to see how this one plays out, you won’t have to wait too long as its headed directly to Paramount+ this November 25–just in time for Thanksgiving with the folks. Somewhere in Hell, Satan is nodding in approval.
