Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), a global quantitative and systematic investment manager that specialises in a technology and data-driven approach to allocation across liquid asset classes, has hired former Schroders executive Daniel Ineichen to lead an insurance-linked securities (ILS) strategy.

Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) looks to adopt a scientific approach to investing in the asset classes within its focus, leveraging data, research and technology to enhance its trading expertise and identify opportunities to generate returns and outperformance.

Ineichen had worked at Schroders Capital as a senior insurance-linked securities (ILS) team member, prior to which he worked at the specialist ILS firm Schroders had purchased, Secquaero Advisors, since 2007.

Ineichen managed catastrophe bond funds for a number of years and then became Head of Portfolio Management at Secquaero, then held similarly senior roles following Schroders acquisition of that company. Earlier this year he became Co-head of ILS at Schroders Capital.

He departed from Schroders Capital in recent months and has now taken a position with Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), the company said.

QRT, like many other multi-strategy hedge funds, systematic investment houses, or quantitative asset managers, establishes investment units (or pods) that focus on opportunities in specific asset classes.

Teams are often built around these strategies, including portfolio managers and analysts, while these kinds of investment firms tend to also draw on centralised resources for research, technology, data and back-office.

Ineichen’s experience in the catastrophe bond and broader insurance-linked securities (ILS) space, as well as his deep and long-standing contacts, will help QRT accelerate its entry into the asset class and it will be interesting to see how meaningful an ILS strategy could become for the investment firm.
