James Martin has revealed the simple way he keeps fit while laughing off his sex symbol status

James Martin has revealed the simple way he keeps fit while laughing off his sex symbol status.

The celebrity chef, 52, who shot to fame on Ready Steady Cook, is one of the country's most popular presenters and has a legion of admiring fans, who often flock to social media praising the Yorkshireman for his "rugged looks" and "twinkly blue eyes".

A desert connoisseur, James whips up an array of delicious treats on his TV shows, however he keeps off the calories by walking, admitting he doesn't use the fancy gym in his house.

Opening up about his fitness regime, he said: "I have a gym upstairs, but I haven't used it though! I do between 20 and 30,000 steps a day walking my dogs."

While talking to Best magazine, who suggest the chef is a "bit of a sex symbol", James disagrees, replying: "You'd better speak to Gino D'Acampo as he is apparently the biggest sex symbol among us chefs! I'm definitely not. I'm 50 b****y two! No, I'm just a chap who loves food, and probably loves eating it more than Gino."

With shows, including Saturday Kitchen and James Martin's Saturday Morning on his CV, James is one of the most popular faces on TV. However, he recently admitted there's a part of the job he finds 'really hard work' as he opened up about his health.

Speaking about his TV career, he told Lose Women's Kaye Adams on her BBC Radio Scotland show, that his job isn't as easy as it looks as he revealed he was "severely dyslexic". After being praised by Kaye, who told James she was "fascinated" by his ability to cook and entertain his celebrity guests at the same time, the chef said: "Weirdly I can cook and talk at the same time, but presenting I still find really difficult. I'm severely dyslexic, so reading anything off an autocue is really hard work, so if I'm allowed to cook and chat that's where I feel at home."

Praising the presenter, he added: "I'm watching you do your thing while I'm listening to music play and you're like a conductor. I can't do what you do and I certainly can't when I've been on Loose Women with you as well. I certainly admire anyone who's able to do that."

James, who underwent surgery to remove facial cancer, earlier this year, has previously spoken of his dyslexia, revealing it didn't get diagnosed until he was 30 after he struggled for many years. On his Saturday Morning show on ITV, he revealed the secret way he overcame the condition while filming the cooking programme.

Speaking to newsreader Lucrezia Millarini, he said: "Well, like you do the reading, I'm severely dyslexic. I have this amazing woman called Sam, Sam [on the] autocue, who puts stuff on bigger type for me so that I can properly read it."
