Jamie Lee Curtis’ upcoming show about The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist has just unleashed its first trailer.
The six-part series is executive-produced by Curtis, who also stars alongside lead actress Margo Martindale, who has won awards for her roles in The Americans, The Good Wife and Justified.
The show, which is called The Sticky, is inspired by a real-life heist that made global headlines in 2012, which saw more than $18 million worth of maple syrup stolen from Quebec's national reserves.
It is also bound to draw comparisons to the 1996 film Fargo and its 2014 TV spin-off of the same name.
Both stories contain humour, violence and absurdity - all in the setting of snowy, small-town communities in North America.
While Fargo took place in rural Minnesota, however, The Sticky is set over the Canadian border in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford, Quebec.
Fans of the Coen Brothers classic - or indeed its sister series - are sure to be drawn to this brand-new black comedy over the festive season.
From creators and showrunners Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, The Sticky also stars Chris Diamantopoulos and Guillaume Cyr in supporting roles.
The description reads: “The Sticky combines moments of culture-clash hilarity, edge-of-the-seat excitement and heartbreaking drama.”
The synopsis further explains: “The Sticky follows Ruth Landry (three-time Emmy Award winner Margo Martindale), a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves.
“She teams up with the hot-tempered Bostonian mobster (Chris Diamantopoulos), and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr) to carry out a multi-million-dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus.”
Following the release of the trailer and first look images, we have been told: “In the deliciously devious trailer, the unlikely trio of maple syrup thieves are introduced – as they evade the long arm of the law, create mayhem in their quest for liquid gold, and potentially dabble in murder.
“The trailer also delivers the first glimpse of legendary Oscar and Emmy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis sinking her teeth into an unwavering, powerhouse guest starring role.”
The Sticky is an original series of Amazon Prime Video and will air in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
All six episodes of The Sticky premiere on December 6, exclusively on Amazon Prime.
