John Torode and his wife, Lisa Faulkner, appear to have one of the strongest marriages in showbiz

John Torode and his wife, Lisa Faulkner, appear to have one of the strongest marriages in showbiz.

Tying the knot in 2019, the pair, who met on MasterChef, even have their own cooking show together. Of course, John, 59, also has a cooking show with Gregg Wallace, 60, but after the recent allegations made against the former greengrocer, the future of MasterChef hangs in the balance.

According to Lisa, 52, Gregg made 'rude joke after rude joke' during her time on the BBC show as she promoted their new cookbook, John and Lisa's Kitchen, at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. The Cutting It star shared a crude jibe the dad-of-three allegedly told, admitting, "I'm probably not allowed to say this".

Following the slew of allegations made against him, Gregg has unfollowed the couple on social media, reportedly for not speaking out in his defence. So, as we wait to see if John will make any comment about his wife's 'crude' claim, here's the lowdown on his marriage to the actress...

John's 'cowardly' love letter

John met Lisa in 2010 when she was a contestant on MasterChef and they hit it off immediately, remaining friends after filming. "He was a judge on a show I loved, and I was petrified of him. He was brilliant and gave us all tips, so you didn't want to let him down," Lisa previously said. "All I could think was, 'That sauce hasn't worked'. I didn't see anything but food for three months. After I won, we did The Good Food Show and stuff. John and I always got on, but I never thought about me and him," she told the Daily Mail.

Revealing how they eventually got together, Lisa revealed in 2013 that everything changed after John wrote her a letter and asked her out to dinner.

John has since confessed that his letter to Lisa was "cowardly", but it meant that there would be no awkwardness for him if she didn't want to date him. He told the outlet: "I'd separated from my wife [Jessica] which was awful, and I was reluctant to approach Lisa face to face as I didn't fancy the prospect of her saying no, so I wrote her a letter. If I'd got no response, it wouldn't matter. Cowardly? S***, yeah. I'm as cowardly as they get."

Spending 'lots of time' in bed

After giving their romance a whirl, things worked out in the couple's favour and they tied the knot in 2019 after John proposed on Christmas Day in 2018. Sharing his secret to a happy marriage a few years later, the Aussie insisted that it is a properly made bed.

Asked what makes their marriage work, he told the Mirror: "A really well-made bed. You spend lots of time in it! Honestly, the bedroom – having that sanctuary of a place to go to, I think that's really important. And nice towels... Looking after yourself is as important as looking after each other."

Lisa admits: 'We really fancy each other'

Despite living together and working on John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen, Lisa insisted the couple's attraction for one another hasn't worn off.

"We really like and fancy each other," the actress told OK! magazine. Adding how how proud she is of her husband, who in February accepted his MBE from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace, before celebrating with a fancy meal, she gushed: "I was really proud of John," she told OK Magazine. "It's an amazing achievement, and the fact he got to meet Prince William! Out of everybody in the royal family, that's who I'd have liked to have met!"

Date nights

“Different things work for different people, but I think the fact that we don’t work together all the time means that when we do, we have a nice time,” Lisa told Closer.

The actress added that they made time for romance and one-on-one time at home, too, and that their relationship was built on a solid foundation of sharing a lot in common.

She explained: “We look after each other, and we make sure we go on date nights or cook for each other. Both of us have always made the effort to listen, and we also like the same things, which helps."
