The Juan Soto sweepstakes has the baseball world at a standstill. Nothing can really proceed until Soto inks his rumored $700 million deal because he's the big domino that needs to fall.
Five teams, the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Dodgers, have reportedly sent offers to Soto's agent, Scott Boras.
FanSided's MLB insider Robert Murray has revealed when he believes Soto will sign. That's the day that free agency will begin to roll very quickly.
"Soto and Boras have met with the leadership groups of the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Los Angeles Dodgers. The meetings were a "get to know each other" type setting that led to no offers. But offers are expected to be extended starting this week, according to ESPN, which lends credence to the thought that Soto could sign during the Winter Meetings from December 8-12," Murray wrote. "And if Soto does indeed sign during the Winter Meetings, one thing is certain: all hell would begin to break loose."
Once Soto signs, the teams that miss on him will begin to offer huge contracts to their backup plans. Players like Pete Alonso, Corbin Burnes, and Blake Snell are all waiting for Soto to come off the board so they can leverage their own value.
As Murray states, once Soto signs, all hell will begin to break loose in the baseball world.
