Accused murderer Karen Read and her lawyers are set to feature front and center in Investigation Discovery’s docuseries A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read.
ID’s latest true crime deep dive follows Read’s initial 2024 murder trial ending in a mistrial, and comes before a 2025 re-trial later this year. The ID and Max series will revisit the case of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe being found dead on a snowy morning in January 2022, and his girlfriend, Read, being charged in his murder.
During the first trial on vehicular homicide and manslaughter charges, prosecutors alleged Read backed her car into O’Keefe and ran him over in a fit of passion, and then left him to die in the snow. Read claimed her innocence and her lawyers alleged something far more nefarious, including an elaborate law enforcement coverup, was at play.
“As Read and her legal team prepare for a retrial, conspiracies, questions and emotions swirl around the truth,” ID said in its announcement on Monday. The docuseries also promises access to unnamed key figures to offer fresh insights into the high-profile murder case set for a retrial.
A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read will premiere on ID over three nights from March 17 to March 19, with the series also to stream on Max. The docuseries is produced by Unsolved Productions for Investigation Discovery.
ID, which focused on true crime programming, last week debuted the four-parter The Fall of Diddy, which claimed a legacy violent behavior and illegal activity from rap world star Sean “Diddy” Combs as he sits in jail and faces an upcoming trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
Last year, the true crime network aired a bombshell five-part docuseries, Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, that alleged child actors faced abuse, sexism and racism while working on 1990s and early 2000s Nickelodeon TV shows.
