By now, we all know that Katy Perry‘s new album 143 was the opposite of the musical comeback the star was hoping for. While some songs did relatively well, fans couldn’t help but criticize every part of the album, from Perry’s decision to work with Dr. Luke as a producer to her tone-deaf music video for her single, “Woman’s World.”
And, according to some inside sources, Perry’s coming to a sad but inevitable realization: her time making hits might be over. “She knows her days as a chart-topping artist are behind her,” a source told Life & Style.

As a result, Perry is reportedly thinking about going back to her old job as one of the judges of American Idol. “Now that her album has flopped, she’s scrambling to reclaim her spot at the judges’ table,” the source said.
But, as fans of the competition show know, American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was announced as her replacement a few months after Perry’s departure in February following her seven-season run.
“I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show,” Underwood reflected in her announcement. “I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show and I’m so proud of everything I’ve accomplished since.”
However, now that Perry’s musical aspirations didn’t work out, she might be going green with envy over Underwood’s new gig. “American Idol was a safe, steady gig for Katy,” the source said. “But Carrie’s got the gig now — and unless the new season is a ratings disaster, there’s no way Katy is getting back in that chair!”
