King Charles III and Queen Camilla have toured the world in the past months, but their Australia tour brought out a different energy from the couple. Charles paused his cancer treatments to attend to his royal duties, however, body language and behavioral expert Darren Stanton exclusively tells In Touch that the pair are “completely comfortable and happy.”
“Generally, when people are not feeling great, they will exhibit certain postures and behavior such as hunched up shoulders, fake smiles, and put[ting] on their game face,” Darren tells In Touch, on behalf of Betfair Slots. “What lets us know that Camilla and Charles are very comfortable is that Charles’ shoulders are down, there are no fake smiles, and we see genuine emotions of happiness. He is happy to be seen as a normal human being.”
On Sunday, October 20, Camilla, 77, made a royal no-no when she didn’t hesitate to take a selfie with a fan at the St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Sydney, Australia.
“With Camilla, she is not averse to hugging people and taking photos with them. They don’t want to distance themselves from the public. It’s clear they’re completely comfortable, calm and really happy,” Darren continues. “I don’t think the monarchy has spent so much time doing walkabouts as they do now. Charles often makes time to go to crowds, which shows how important it is for him and Camilla to connect.”
After Camilla took a photo with a fan, the Express reported that there is “no royal rule regarding selfies.” That said, the gesture is “generally discouraged for members of the Royal Family.”
Days ahead of Charles, 75, and Camilla’s tour to Australia and Samoa, In Touch reported that the King was “pausing” his cancer treatments while tending to his duties.” Buckingham Palace revealed his diagnosis in February.
“They’ve already shortened the tour to accommodate his illness,” a source exclusively told In Touch in a story published on October 16. “It’s just another example of the extraordinary work ethic he got from his mother, who fulfilled her duties up until her last day alive.”
The tour kicked off on October 18 and wraps up on October 26.
Charles and Camilla had fun preparing for their tour, especially when they attended a reception on October 2, while celebrating the Commonwealth diaspora at St. James’s Palace. The family patriarch was in high spirits and joined the performers on the dance floor to learn a Samoan dance.
“It was really interesting to see Charles make the hand gestures – he really wanted to get involved. He’s got a massive smile across his face, with laugh lines and crow’s feet. It was genuine emotion he was showing here, and the guests were loving the fact he was there,” Darren previously said of the interaction. “He’s not distancing himself, he wanted to embrace the essence of what the event is about. Overall, it’s a great piece of footage that shows the King at his best, being himself, relaxed, his shoulders down. There’s no sign of nerves, playing with cufflinks or hands in his pockets.”
