Lauren Laverne has announced that she is set to return to work this week after revealing her cancer diagnosis in August.

Lauren, 46, who has been the host of Desert Island Discs since 2018, is set to return to radio just months after revealing she had been diagnosed with cancer.

The BBC star announced she’d be returning to work with a sweet post revealing she had been given the ‘all clear’ by doctors.

‘Well hello there! Just a quick update from me to say that after taking some time off to get better I’ve had the all clear and will be back to work on your TV this Tuesday with the wonderful @bbctheoneshow team.

She revealed that she has been working on new Desert Island Disc episodes which are set to air on BBC Radio 4 and will be back on BBC6 Music in 2025.

The star took time to thank the medical staff who helped her and the fans who sent her messages of support.

‘I want to say a huge thank you to the brilliant medical teams who took such great care of me, to the thousands of people who sent me such beautiful and encouraging messages.’

She also gave a shout-out to her ‘two astounding kids’ and her husband Graeme who she said was ‘absolutely extraordinary throughout’.

‘It’s been a difficult time but one that has taught me so much about what really matters.

‘I can’t say I suddenly regretted never having hiked the Inca Trail, more that I now see more beauty in ordinary things than I could have imagined, and feel more than ever that the small things in life – the connections we make and care we take with each other – are the big things really.’

She concluded by sending love to those going through cancer treatment and sharing images of the cards she had received during her treatment.

Lauren confirmed on August 21 she was in hospital after being diagnosed, but did not specify which type of cancer she was suffering from.

Since August 11, Radio 4 has been airing extended and classical editions of Desert Island Discs, with the next episode featuring Lauren to air on December 1.

The presenter last appeared on the airwaves on August 15 when she presented her 6 Music show.

Taking over for her have been other hosts including Nick Grimshaw, Nemone Metaxas, and Deb Grant.
