The late Liam Payne is reportedly set to be celebrated at a service of remembrance in the UK in the coming days.

It was announced last month that Liam, who is best known for having been a member of One Direction, passed away, aged 31, after falling from a balcony in Argentina. The news just a few weeks ago was met with an outpouring of tributes.

Grieving fans also organised vigils for the late singer-songwriter following the news of his death. And there have been calls in recent weeks for a permanent monument to be put up in his memory in his hometown Wolverhampton.

There's speculation that the funeral may be held later this week and the Daily Mail reports that a "lavish service of remembrance" is expected to take place in the coming days. A source told the outlet that it will be a "very big send off".

The source told the outlet: "Liam will have a very big send off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart. Liam was so loved by so many people, there will obviously be enormous demand and so the service will necessarily be a huge affair. The details are still under wraps until they are definitively signed off but should be announced very soon."

It's however unclear whether the remembrance service will be separate from a funeral. The outlet reports though that thousands more well-wishers than can be accommodated at the remembrance service's venue are expected to gather outside.

It's previously been reported that Liam's funeral is expected to be private. As previously reported, a source told Radar Online: "His family want to keep his farewell low-key and respectful, as it's what Liam would have wanted as he was so down to earth."

Details of a funeral are yet to be announced. Fans however have paid tribute outside St. Peter's Collegiate Church in Liam's hometown this week. Flowers and handwritten messages were spotted beside the Lady Wulfrun statue on Tuesday. Residents had already held at candlelit vigil for Liam outside his former school St Peter's Collegiate Academy.

There are also calls for a permanent memorial in his honour to be put up in the community. A petition calling on the council to consider building a permanent memorial to him in Wolverhampton has reached over 4,600 signatures. Following the news of his death, tributes poured in from Liam from fans, family and friends. Among those who paid tribute were his bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson in a joint statement.

They said: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
