Liam Payne's dad, Geoff, was concerned about his son being in "lonely hotel rooms" according to the late One Direction star.
Since his tragic death in October in which he fell from the third floor of his suite in Argentina, it has since been reported that Liam had a fear of being confined in hotel rooms and was trying to escape when he lost his life.
In a resurfaced TikTok video, the much-loved star talks about his dad's fears for his son as he toured the world with One Direction. "My dad said it from day one - lonely hotel rooms. Getting locked in that room is not fun," Liam insisted.
The star then alluded to his mental health and "hitting rock bottom" in the Diary of a CEO podcast, admitting: "Rock bottom? I was worried how far my rock bottom was going to be. Where's rock bottom for me? I'm very good at hiding it, you wouldn't even know. I don't even know if I've hit it yet."
The One Direction heartthrob left his legion of loyal fans around the world bereft when his death was announced last month. Liam had been staying at CasaSur Palmero in Argentina and tragically died from multiple injuries as well as internal and external bleeding caused by the fall, a post-mortem examination said.
His body was found in the hotel’s internal courtyard and after his death, police found substances in his hotel room, and damaged objects and furniture, according to the public prosecutor’s office. On the 8 November, it was revealed that three people have been charged in connection with Liam's death.
It has been claimed by witnesses and a filed police report that the hotel allegedly knew Liam was threatening to use the balcony as a means to escape, but left him alone. According to TMZ, sources have said the singer had a fear of being confined in hotel rooms, a reaction that stems from his time in One Direction.
On the day of his death, Liam was captured on hotel surveillance video visibly intoxicated and causing a disturbance in the lobby before staff at the hotel intervened. Witnesses reported that the dad-of-one resisted, telling staff he did not want to stay in the room and even warned them he would use the balcony to escape if confined.
Hotel employees reportedly used a master key to place Liam in his room. However, just minutes later, a hotel employee called 911, noting the singer was in a room with a balcony and expressing fear that he might attempt to escape.
“I don’t know whether his life may be in danger. He is in a room with a balcony, and, well, we’re a little afraid,” the hotel employee stated during the call, according to the transcript. After the hotel staff left Liam alone in the room, he apparently tried to flee via the balcony, leading to the tragic fall.
