Liam Payne’s phone could play a vital role in unlocking the mystery surrounding his tragic death.
The singer, 31, was staying at the Hotel CasaSur in Palermo, Buenos Aires, when hotel staff called police with concerns about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”. Liam fell to his death from his balcony, and his body was discovered with catastrophic injuries in the hotel’s inner courtyard. Officials in the Argentine capital have said “everything indicates” the former One Direction star was alone when he died and an investigation has been launched into the tragedy.
Police retrieved Liam’s phone in the immediate aftermath of his death, and the device will play a key role in understanding what happened to Liam in the moments before his death. A source close to the investigation told The Sun that the circumstances in the run-up to his fatal fall are “suspicious”, and authorities are looking for a possible drug dealer who could have supplied the singer with “illegal substances”.

Officers discovered his room was covered in debris and alcohol, and the TV had been smashed, as well as tin foil left in the empty bathtub. Forensic officials stated that a mobile phone was removed from the hotel’s inner courtyard where Liam’s body was found.
A full toxicology report is ongoing, and a preliminary autopsy revealed he suffered internal bleeding and 25 traumatic injuries to his skull, limbs and abdomen, consistent with a fall. The coroner said those injuries were enough to cause his death, and a lack of defensive injuries on his hands suggest to police that he may have passed out before his fatal fall.

A hotel receptionist made two calls to police as they expressed concern about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”. They revealed the guest was “destroying everything in his room”, and told the emergency operator that they feared for Liam’s life.
“We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. They must be in a room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little bit worried he’ll do something, that he’ll put his life at risk,” the staff member added. His death was confirmed by ambulance crews who arrived on the scene with police, and discovered his body in the hotel’s inner courtyard. The singer was in Buenos Aires after going to see his former bandmate Niall Horan perform, and had reportedly decided to continue his stay in the Argentine capital city.
