Zara McDermott's major update on Sam Thompson split as she 'confirms' who has custody of cats

Former Love Island star Zara McDermott split with her long-term boyfriend Sam Thompson earlier this month after their happy relationship and home life with their two beloved cats came crashing down

Zara McDermott has shared an update on the adorable two cats she shared with ex-boyfriend Sam Thompson before their shock split earlier this month.

Former Love Island star Zara, 28, and Made In Chelsea star Sam, 32, had been together since 2019, and shared their lives frequently on social media and with joint work projects.

The duo lived together in Chelsea, and even shared two designer cats together called Albus and Cedric. Despite their seeming domestic bliss, the duo had reportedly been travelling down different paths over the past few years before their split.

On Blue Monday, Zara appeared to take a savage swipe at Sam as she re-shared a cryptic TikTok video. The TV star reshared the video which alluded that 'not everyone has the same heart as her'. The post also questioned why someone 'would do what they did.'

The post, which was originally created by TikTok user @ewwieeee was captioned: "Me reminding myself that not everyone has the same heart as me, but still can't understand why they did what they did because I would have never done it to them."

Now, as her fas continue to mourn the sudden breakup, and after Zara confirmed that she had moved out of the plush Chelsea home she shared with Sam, she has shared an update on who has taken custody of their shared cats. Zara posted a video of herself taking her beloved Albus for a walk on a lead - suggesting that she has taken the cats with her after moving out of the home she shared with Sam.

However, it could also be the case that Zara and Sam are still sharing their time with their beloved pets, and Zara simply went to take Albus on a walk before bringing him back to the house he was raised in and is used to being in.

It comes after and insider claimed there were lots of underlying issues in their relationship before they ultimately called it quits after Christmas. "Zara never felt like she was the priority with Sam. He always seemed to find someone or something to put before her," one source told The Sun, with another adding that while Zara loved Sam, there were still issues in their relationship.

“They are both selfish in their own right and want to be successful in business as individuals - but of course that comes at a price,” they said, adding: "Sam is very childish - it’s even become a part of his ‘showbiz persona’ - but Zara feels as though she’s getting older and wants to start being taken more seriously.”

Along with the differing personalities, the insider said Zara and Sam had different life goals, with Zara looking to move onto the next step while Sam was content as things were. They claimed that Zara was keen to start a family soon, while Sam felt they were still a bit young for kids and should remain focused on work for now.

News of Zara and Sam’s rumoured split broke at the beginning of the year, after a source told the Mail Online: "Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It's been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other.

"But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split and will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025. There has been no scandal or fallout between them, it's just the result of a difficult year, where they both had to spend a lot of time focused on their own projects."
