Love Island: Scott Thomas chats to Maya Jama about leaving

Former Love Island star Scott Thomas has reunited with his famous brothers after his shock exit from the South African villa.

Scott's brother Adam Thomas admits "they’ll be mixed reviews" over his sibling's decision to head home to the UK early and defended Scott's treatment of Tina Stinnes on the All Stars version of the dating series, saying that at 36 Scott "doesn’t want to half ass it and he’s genuinely looking for love and connection!"

Reality TV star Scott spilled the beans on his dramatic walkout from Love Island in Sunday's tear-jerker of an episode. In a touching moment, he broke the news of his exit to his fellow islanders, citing a rocky journey with flame Tina. Opening up to host Maya Jama during his departure, Scott reflected on his first stint on the ITV hit show back in 2016, where he found love with Kady McDermott, saying it spurred his decision to jet out.

"The first time I did this show I had that instant connection with someone, and it made everything so much easier," he confessed to Maya, referencing his past spark. Maya probed further: "Could that maybe have been the downfall then? Having your first experience, hitting it off straight away with Kady pretty much, and then coming in and maybe expecting the same and it not happening?"

The Mancunian PR agency owner acknowledged: "Yeah, I think I took it for granted the first time round. To find someone you've got that - I call it fireworks. I had a connection with Tina but it wasn't fireworks, and yeah, it feels like the right decision." Taking to social media on Sunday night as Scott's exit aired on ITV2, Adam showed some love for his brother.

Captioned a snap of himself, Scott and other family members, Adam told his 1.1 Instagram followers: "I’m not crying you are!!! Wow!!! What a few weeks it’s been being away from this guy! I can imagine once again they’ll be mixed reviews over tonight’s episode but he’s just doing what he feels is right and being the honest version of himself!"

Adam continued: "He took a risk stepping into love island at the age of 36 but he wanted to enjoy the experience again for the second and final time and although this time, he may not have found love, he showed that he has the biggest heart and kindest soul… he’s come too far to play games…he could have faked it all the way if he wanted too but that’s not what my bro is about!

"He TRIED to make it work but at the end of the day it’s been 11 days you can’t force something that isn’t there. Although Tina is a beautiful girl and seems lovely, Scott’s 36 he doesn’t want to half ass it and he’s genuinely looking for love and connection! he chose To do the right thing and do what was best for him and Tina … no mistakes were made just lessons learnt!

The former Strictly Come Dancing star concluded with: "Another chapter another experience made and many more to come!! Nothing but proud of the way he carried himself through out! Am so so proud of him the whole family are!! Thank you again for all your support and love through out x can’t wait to get him back to the family now and get back to business …"

As word got out of Scott's departure from the villa on Friday, The Sun claimed that Scott had been battling to "push past his doubts" about the relationship with Tina, which apparently had been building up - hinting that his exit might be for the betterment of his own joy.

The source claimed Scott felt incapacitated to shake off the sense that Tina "wasn't right for him," emphasising that ensuring he didn't "waste her precious time" in the villa was his utmost concern. "After taking some time out with the dedicated Love Island welfare team, Scott decided that the best thing he could do for himself was to remove himself from the situation," the insider said. "He's done so much work over recent years on self-love and he didn't want to force a connection for the sake of it."
