Luigi Mangione and Diddy Are in the Same Prison

Following his extradition to New York on Thursday, Dec. 20, Luigi Mangione could soon be sharing space with some other infamous prisoners.

Per Business Insider, Mangione, the leading suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is now being held in a solitary confinement cell at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). While he's currently occupying a 9-by-7 foot federal solitary confinement cell, it's possible he could be moved to the 15-man protective custody unit that currently houses two of the most famous prisoners at MDC, Sean Diddy Combs and FTX cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried.

Mangione is being held in solitary confinement until Monday, December 23, which prison consultant Sam Mangel said has been referred to as "the SHU" and "the hole." He will have to eat his meals inside his cell until he's move, and he only gets one hour outside the cell a day for showering and recreational purposes. Mangel added that those solitary cells are "notoriously loud" because other inmates being held there are often known to bang on doors "at all hours of the night."

After news broke that Mangione is being held at MDC, social media users jokingly compared the detention center to Arkham Asylum from Batman, where all of the Caped Crusader's famous villains are housed.

Mangione is facing 11 state charges and four federal charges. The state charges including first-degree murder in the futherance of an act of terrorism, criminal possession, and second-degree murder. He was hit with the federal charges following his extradition, which also means he's now facing the death penalty. The federal charges include two counts of stalking, another firearms offense, and another murder charge.

The Brooklyn detention center isn't Mangione's only connection to Diddy, however. Earlier this month, Mangione tapped high-powered attorney Karen Friedman-Agnifilo to represent him. His lawyer is married to Marc Agnifilo, who is representing Diddy.
