P Diddy's legal defence has been drafted in to defend murder suspect Luigi Mangione.

Mangione is accused of murdering United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. Thompson was shot dead outside of a Hilton Hotel in New York City earlier this month. On Thursday, Mangione arrived back in New York to be put on trial for the murder of Brian Thompson, having initially fled to Pennsylvania.

Currently, the charges Mangione face include one punishable by death. These include first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism and federal charges including crimes of murder, stalking and weapons violations. During his 15 15 minute hearing, Mangione didn't request bail and will stay detained, according to the Associated Press. However he can request bail at a later date if he so wishes.

Federal charges against Mangione remain sealed by several people said the case would later be made public. A courtroom had been set aside in a Manhattan federal courthouse for Mangione's appearance in addition to an overflow courtroom where people can watch the proceeding on video should there be more people in attendance that can fit in the courtroom.

Magione was arrested in Pennsylvania five days after the shooting after he was spotted at a McDonald's restaurant. The 26-year-old Ivy League graduate from a major Maryland real estate family was apprehended on December 9. He is understood to have left a trail of evidence including a Starbucks water bottle as well as an energy bar wrapper. A backpack like that worn during the shooting was also located in Central Park.

But when he arrived at court, he was greeted by Marc Agnifilo , who is representing scandal-hit musician, P Diddy. He had previously retained former Manhattan Chief Assistant District Attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo – the wife of Marc. It's claimed that the couple met with Mangione before his arraignment.

The couple had also driven to meet with him in a Pennsylvania prison earlier this week. Prior to arrival in New York, Magione had been transported on a private jet after he waived extradition during a hearing in Pennsylvania. Upon arrival into New York, he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to downtown Manhattan. Since the hearing, he has been remanded in custody at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

This is also the same prison where P Diddy is being held on a string of allegations including sex trafficking by force, transportation to engage in prostitution and racketeering conspiracy. Several members of the public had gathered to protest in support of Mangione, some with signs claiming "Luigi freed us." He is being offered protection similar to what visiting diplomats and dignitaries receive when they visit New York, claims Felipe Rodriguez, a former detective sergeant who had worked with the New York Police Department for over two decades.

In Pennsylvania, Magione was represented by Thomas Dickey, who previously stated that he would plead not guilty to murder charges in NYC and to illegal firearm and forgery charges in Pennsylvania. "We've pled not guilty, at least to the charges in Pennsylvania. Like I said I'm not aware of any actual charges in New York," Dickey said.
