Mariah Carey’s Estranged Brother Demands Pop Star Turn Over Private Texts Weeks After Mom’s Death

2 days ago 4

Mariah Carey’s estranged brother, Morgan Carey, demanded the pop star turn over all text messages where she spoke about him as part of their bitter court battle only months after their mom and sister died, In Touch can exclusively report.

Morgan filed a list of documents he wants his sister to turn over within the next 20 days. The motion, obtained by In Touch, requests all communications that Mariah, 55, sent that concern or that relate to Morgan.

He asked that she produce all documents and communications related to the research and publication of her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

Morgan filed his lawsuit in 2021, accusing Mariah of falsely accusing him of being violent and a drug dealer during their childhood in the book. In the book, Mariah claimed Morgan had gotten physical with their mother and father in separate incidents.

He said the book ruined his reputation. In his motion, Morgan also demanded Mariah turn over “all communications, including emails and texts, sent to any individual or entity that concern or refer to [Morgan]. This includes original, unedited email communications.”

Further, his lawyer demanded Mariah “produce internal memoranda, correspondence or other documents prepared by, or for, or received by, Defendant for use in writing, editing, planning, designing, scheduling, reviewing, coordinating or supervising the publication of the Book.”

Morgan also set a deposition date of January 17 for Mariah to be grilled about the claims in her book.

In her book, Mariah said, “It took twelve cops to pull my brother and father apart. The big bodies of men, all entangled like a swirling hurricane, crashed loudly into the living room. I was a little girl with very few memories of a big brother who protected me. More often, I felt I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I would find myself protecting my mother from him too.”

Another passage read, “Suddenly there was a loud, sharp noise, like an actual gunshot. My brother had pushed my mother with such force that her body slammed into the wall, making a loud cracking sound.”

In court, Morgan denied the accusations that he had gotten into physical altercations with their parents. He also denied ever being a drug dealer.

His lawsuit demanded unspecified damages. Mariah denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

She claimed all the statements in her book were “true or substantially true.” The singer said her mother told her Morgan was dealing drugs, along with several other associates in the business. “I would describe it as inner-circle common knowledge at the time that [Morgan] was heavily involved in the Manhattan night life scene and that he often was in possession of cocaine and provided it to members of the night life crowd that he associated with,” she told the court.

The court dismissed several claims in the lawsuit but allowed Morgan to continue to pursue his claim against Mariah over the drug dealing claims.

The legal drama moving forward comes only months after Mariah and Morgan’s mom, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey, passed on the same day. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Mariah told People. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

As In Touch first reported, Alison also sued Mariah over her memoir. The case was not resolved before her death.
