Paris Jackson, the daughter of late "King of Pop," Michael Jackson, has reached a major health milestone. The singer-songwriter and model, 26, revealed on Instagram that she is five years sober from heroin on Tuesday, January 7 with a video montage.

"Hi, i'm pk and i'm an alcoholic and a heroin addict," she wrote in the caption of the Instagram Reel. "today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. to say that i'm thankful would be a poor euphemism. gratitude hardly scratches the surface," she continued.

In the video, which begins with a closeup of Paris' eye and shows her partying and drinking before turning her life around, she goes through a wide range of emotions from crying by herself to laughing with friends to performing on stage, looking healthier and happier as more time passes.

"It's because i'm sober that i get to smile today. i get to make music. i get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. i get to feel heartbreak in all it's glory. i get to grieve. i get to laugh. i get to dance. i get to trust. i feel the sun on my skin and it's warm. i've found that life keeps happening regardless of whether i'm sober or not, but today i get to show up for it," she wrote. The video also features close-up shots of her sobriety chips.

Paris's father famously died of a drug overdose from propofol, a drug administered to him by his personal docto in 2009 at the age of 50. (Paris was 11.) In 2013, she was hospitalized as a result of a suicide attempt with pain pills. In 2017, Paris told Rolling Stone she believed her father was murdered, but has not spoken publicly on the subject since.

Despite her painful past, Paris seemed happy to be living her best life in 2025. She wrapped up the caption for her video by writing, "here's a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god i can't believe i almost missed it all."

Well-wishers commented on the video with words of encouragement and praise for the musician, actress, and model. Fellow celebrity Paris Hilton wrote, "So proud of you sis🙌." One follower commented, "Congratulations only a very strong woman has your courage! You are wonderful!" Several users wrote that Paris' story helped them in their own sobriety journey. "I love that you've found happiness and peace on the other side of addiction. So many don't make it. You're an inspiration for those who struggle," said one such fan.

At the end of the video, an onscreen note from Paris reads, "to those that helped me on this journey, if only for just the beginning, middle, or the whole time so far, you know who you are and i owe you my life. thank you. 5 years. THANK GOD."
