Moment Cat Clings Onto Shed Roof 'The Lion King'-Style Caught on Camera

2 months ago 10

A cat was left clinging on for dear life after failing to execute a bold jump from a ledge to a nearby shed roof.

Footage of the dramatic incident was captured on a Ring security camera, with the video subsequently shared with Newsweek.

The footage was captured on a garden security camera belonging to Paul from Essex in the U.K. Speaking to Ring about the incident, he said: "This is not my cat but a frequent visitor to my garden. It was absolutely fine after its little escapade and continues coming to my garden.

"As for my reaction, I felt a bit sorry for him/her; it looked a bit embarrassed, especially when it looked at the camera," Paul added.

Cats are significantly more adept at jumping from heights than humans. A 2019 study published in the journal Applied Bionics and Biomechanics put this down to key biological differences, namely that felines' limbs are designed to attenuate impact forces. The angles of their elbows and hips prove major contributors to energy absorption during landing.

Maybe that's why cats are not afraid of taking risks. It doesn't always pay off, though, as the video captured on the Ring device shows. The footage shows how a black cat attempted their very own superhero jump but ended up facing a "Lion King" moment of their own instead. The cat didn't quite make it and instead ended up hanging precariously from the edge.

As time ticked on, the feline could be seen using all of its strength to try to clamber up to safety. It is a scenario that was not entirely dissimilar to the one faced by Simba's father, Mufasa, in the hit Disney film The Lion King.

In the movie, Mufasa finds his attempts at crawling to safety hindered by his vengeful brother Scar, who claws at his elder sibling's paws, sending him tumbling down to his death.

Thankfully, there was no appearance from Scar or any cat matching his description in the video. Instead, the feline in the clip found a way to expedite its situation by dropping down and jumping off the wall. The cat then sauntered off, doing its best to appear nonplussed at what it had just gone through.

This isn't the first time a cat's hilarious outdoor antics have caught on a Ring device.

Izzy, a ginger cat from Norfolk in the U.K., went viral after her owner discovered she had worked out how to get back inside using the doorbell cam they had set up.

Another ginger cat, this time in the U.S., has taken to meowing into the camera to get its human's attention.

While cats are busy showing off their intelligence, some of the dogs captured on Ring devices elsewhere have been doing things a little differently.

Teddy, a golden retriever puppy living in Scotland was recently enjoying a game of fetch in his owner's backyard and thought nothing of bowling over his grandma in pursuit of the ball.
