A viral post on the site formerly known as Twitter has fooled people into thinking Lana Del Rey and Lizzo are feuding on TikTok.
On Nov. 13, the account Drop Pop shared a post claiming that Lizzo and Lana Del Rey were fighting in the comments of one of the latter's TikTok videos. "I'd like to see you back on the charts," the screenshot showed Lizzo comment. "I would love to see you run on a treadmill," the screenshot alleged Lana Del Rey replied.
Drop Pop, which has previously billed itself as a parody of pop culture news aggregator accounts, has since removed the post, which garnered over 20 million impressions, 380K likes, and 22K reposts. The comments, however, were never real.
A follow-up post alleged that they continued to go back and forth, with a screenshot claiming Lizzo told Lana Del Rey she hopes she gets eaten by an alligator, a reference to the latter's alligator tour guide husband, Jeremy Dufrene.
The post got enough traction to get a community note, which reads, "This is a joke. Lana and Lizzo did not have this exchange. @DropPopNet previously described itself as a parody account in its bio."
The TikTok post where the comments allegedly went down includes no evidence either artist argued in the comments. A quick look at the comment section, however, shows that a lot of people went to check and see if the artists really were beefing.
Neither artist has commented on the viral posts.
