Olivia Atwood reveals 'cock up' that stopped her going back into IAC

Olivia Attwood revealed she tried to "fight" ITV for the chance to remain on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! after her sudden exit. The 33-year-old shared truths and teased at a possible return as she recounted her 2022 jungle experience.

Two years ago, Olivia made history as the first Love Island contestant to join the jungle but was sent home just 48 hours later on medical grounds. Olivia has since called the experience the "worst thing" to happen in her TV career.

Eager to stay in the competition, she revealed that show bosses wouldn't let her continue, and there are still parts of her exit she cannot discuss.

Speaking to Pete Wicks on his Staying Relevant podcast, Olivia admitted, "That is the worst thing that's happened to me in this industry. In terms of, like, just the disappointment. You know what it's like when you really want something. Oh my God, I really wanted the jungle.

“They always said this at ITV, they always said they weren't gonna do a Love Island/jungle crossover. So when I got it I felt ‘I've finally done this thing to get chosen to go in.'

Olivia continued: It was just a c*** up on so many levels. Some of the details, I can't talk about but it was a medical thing essentially. I tried to fight them on it because I felt like I was fine.”

The star has since been in talks with show bosses who have considered her possibly making a return to the Australian outback. She said: “I know I could have gone back. I need time to settle on it because it was such an anticlimax for me.”

Olivia received a medical red flag, which was later revealed to be linked to her anaemia. Anaemia is a condition where the body doesn’t have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen to its tissues, often causing fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.

ITV said at the time: "As a precautionary measure Olivia needed to leave the jungle to undergo some medical checks. Unfortunately the medical team has advised it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be a further investigation. She has been absolutely brilliant and she'll be very much missed on the show."

In an interview with MailOnline, the star said that the medical staff found out she was anaemic. Olivia explained: “I was like, ‘What the hell is wrong with me?’ They couldn’t give me an answer, they just told me that they had to get me to the hospital immediately."

She continued: “The results were really, really low when they put them into their reader, and they consulted with another doctor off site. I had those bloods done in England before I left, and they were fine, so I was confused and of course very, very worried.”

Since her jungle stint in 2022, Olivia has paved the way for ITV bosses to invite more Love Island alum down under. This year we saw Maura Higgins enter the jungle and although she was a late arrival, Maura came out at seventh place in the star-studded 12 contestant jungle.
