Pit Bull Owner Has a Message for UPS Drivers Everywhere

Instead of barking at delivery trucks, one dog has made it her mission to befriend them all, leaving her owner to send a message to UPS.

Like many dogs, Michelle Martinson's pit bull, Ruby, was nervous and afraid of almost everyone when she was first adopted. The family had to help Ruby learn to trust again, which paid off. Now she wants to say hello and make friends with everyone, especially those driving delivery trucks.

"The very first time we came across our UPS driver. It was a couple blocks from our house, and he asked if he could give her a cookie," Martinson told Newsweek. "I told him she was nervous around new people but he could try. He tried, and she was too scared to take it."

They crossed paths with that same driver multiple times over the next six months but never interacted with the driver until September. One day, the pit bull ran up to the driver when she saw him in the neighborhood. He gave her a treat, and they immediately became best friends.

"It was that day that locked in her love for the big brown truck and has now spread into thinking all the big trucks have treats for her," Martinson said.

Although the driver in the October 10 TikTok video, posted to the account @missrubythepittie, isn't their usual driver, Ruby knew the drill: sit, wait and use puppy dog eyes to get a treat. He noticed Ruby eagerly watching as he delivered the packages. Her waiting paid off as he brought out the "biggest bacon treat" from the truck for Ruby. Martinson said her dog hasn't been the same since.

Now, Ruby expects a treat from every truck she sees: UPS, FedEx, USPS. She's also discovered the local milk delivery truck will carry cookies for her, but she doesn't see those trucks as often, Martinson said. But since it started with a UPS driver, Martinson wanted to share a message with the company: "Dear @UPS, I blame your awesome drivers for the reason why my dog stops and waits at every delivery truck we pass."

Martinson explained that while on walks Ruby will desperately pull her toward the truck. However, if it's driving away, she'll run after it. She's not letting a treat opportunity get past her that quickly. Sometimes, if she's not on a leash, she'll run to the truck and try to go inside but stop when Martinson calls after her.

"Once we're near the truck, and especially when she sees or hears the driver, she will sit and wait so patiently because she's convinced every delivery truck is there to bring her treats," Martinson said.

The clip has over 1 million views on TikTok, and people couldn't get over Ruby's patience and determination to get the driver to notice her. The hard work clearly paid off.

"She said, 'They could all be my driver if I give them the puppy eyes long enough,'" commented one viewer.

Another added: "Stop, the UPS truck is equivalent to an ice cream truck for her!"

A third person wrote: "She wasn't confused, she knew that's the treat truck!"
