Platinum-selling singer's real name has super sweet meaning

As the official list of celebrities is announced, some of the stars may be lesser known than others. One I’m A Celeb campmate heading into the Aussie jungle is platinum-selling artist Tulisa. This year, Olivia Attwood discovers how Tulisa isn’t the singer’s real name during an interview on her podcast, So Wrong It’s Right.

I’m A Celeb star unearths her real name

Appearing as a guest on Olivia’s So Wrong It’s Right podcast this October, the two get chatting about all kinds of aspects of Tulisa’s life.

“Tulisa is not your actual name,” says Olivia.

The Better Not Waste My Time singer replies: “No it isn’t. You’re the first person to bring that up ever. Love that fresh energy.”

The N-Dubz star’s real name is ‘Tula’.

Olivia says in all her years of hearing about Tulisa, she never heard her real name mentioned.

Tulisa explains: “My grandmother is also called Tula,” adding how she was named after her.

“Tulisa means ‘tiny Tula’ in Greek,” Tulisa continues.

The former X Factor star explains how she’s half Greek and that ‘Tulisa’ ended up being her nickname growing up.

Tulisa’s family explored

Tulisa’s full name is Tula Paulinea Contostavlos and she was born on July 13, 1988, in Camden Town, London.

She is one year older than her cousin and bandmate, Costadinos ‘Dappy’ Contostavlos.

Both were born and raised in London. Dappy’s father, and Tulisa’s uncle, ‘Uncle B’, was N-Dubz’s manager.

Speaking to Olivia, Tulisa said Uncle B “sadly died” when she was 18, but “before that he basically managed N-Dubz.”

Tulisa explains how Dappy went to his father at a young age and expressed how he wanted to be a rapper.

Byron ‘Uncle B’ Contostavlos suggested Dappy get a group together and later N-Dubz was formed.

Speaking of how her part in the band came about, Tulisa said: “My Uncle B came and knocked on my door and he was like ‘Right T, we really need you at the studio, would you come and lay something down?’ and I was like ‘No, I’m gonna be a solo star’.”

After settling on a deal of £50 with her uncle, Tulisa said: “And that’s how N-Dubz started, I was 11 years old, bartering for fifty quid.”
