Despite being two of the most popular and affordable TV streamers on the market, Amazon has somewhat surprisingly announced it is discontinuing both its Fire TV Stick Lite and Fire TV Stick, meaning the firm no longer sells a product that is simply called 'Fire TV Stick'.
Both products were still on sale on Amazon UK at the time of writing but Amazon implies, and ZDNet reports, that both are being discontinued and replaced by a new model.
The two streamers have been replaced by a new device in the lineup, the Fire TV Stick HD. Although the two scrapped Sticks were also capable of streaming in HD quality, Amazon says the move is to make sure every single Stick it sells comes with a remote that can control as much as possible.
Amazon describes the Fire TV Stick HD as "a compact streaming device that gets you to all of your favourite streaming content, the benefits of the Fire TV experience, and the power of Alexa.

"With this update, every streaming device in the Fire TV family now includes a remote that enables you to seamlessly control the entire entertainment experience across your TV, soundbar, and receiver."
Fire TV Sticks are popular thanks to their affordability and how they can easily upgrade any TV with an HDMI port to be able to stream video content over a Wi-FI connection. You can download and log in to Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and other apps.
The new Fire TV Stick HD will be sold alongside the existing Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and the Fire TV Cube. It’s available to buy now for £39.99, replacing the £34.99 Fire TV Stick Lite and the £44.99 Fire TV Stick.

The HD model comes with the Alexa Voice Remote, which Amazon says “allows you to use your voice to find your favourite programs across your apps. It simplifies your TV experience to one remote with included traditional TV controls to power on/off and change the volume across soundbars, and receivers.”
