Rudy Giuliani Donations Flood In After Trump's Message

9 hours ago 2

Rudy Giuliani has received an influx of donations to his legal fees fundraiser after President-elect Donald Trump called on supporters to save him.

The former mayor of New York City gained over $10,000 in donations after Trump's intervention but still faces a $148 million defamation lawsuit from his accusations against two Georgia election workers.

Newsweek contacted Giuiliani's legal team for comment via email.

Why It Matters

Last week, Giuliani was found in contempt of court twice, in the case of two Georgia election workers that he falsely accused of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

A Manhattan court said Giuliani had not complied with requests to give the election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss, the information he was required to deliver on his assets, which he may have to give up to pay the defamation costs.

What To Know

Giuliani has started an online fundraiser so supporters can contribute to his legal costs, which amount to $148 million. The fundraiser aims to bring in $250,000.

Donald Trump, who Giuliani used to represent and remains a strong advocate for, called on his supporters to aid the former mayor, writing on social media on January 12: "SAVE RUDY!!!"

Trump's message coincided with an influx of support for the fundraiser. In the days since the post, Giuliani gained over $12,000, taking his total up to $166,000, with many donations praising him for his support for Donald Trump.

On Thursday, Giuliani will appear at another trial in New York to decide whether he will have to give up his Palm Beach condo to the election workers, in addition to the Manhattan apartment he has already been forced to relinquish.

What People Are Saying

One anonymous donor to Guiliani's fundraiser website said: "I pray that justice is ultimately served for a true American patriot and the savior of NYC. Godspeed Rudy!"

Another donor said: "Mayor, you cleaned up a city and held a nation together allowing us to hold our heads high on the darkest of days. May we return the favor. This lawfare is not right. I hope you feel our love & gain strength through our donations. I am sorry this is happening to you. Hang tough, Mayor. God bless you Rudy & God bless the USA."

A third donor, who gave $500 to the fundraiser, said: "We know the establishment is trying to send a message to destroy you for telling the truth that you know!! Your integrity is impeccable and they fear you because of your truth! Someday they will have to face the truth!! Thank you Rudy for all you've done and will continue to do. You were the best Mayor New York ever had. Under your leadership, New York was a pleasure to live in! God Bless."

What Happens Next

Giuliani will return to New York on Thursday for his next trial.

He may also be ordered to give up three World Series rings that he claims were given to his son in 2018.
