Ryan Reynolds Hints When He Might Host the Oscars With Hugh Jackman

The Oscars are only 114 days until the 2025 Oscars ceremony and the show still doesn’t have a host. Back in September, there was a rumor that Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds might host Hollywood’s biggest night after their success at the summer box office in Deadpool & Wolverine — and now one of them is breaking their silence on the hot topic..

Reynolds spoke with Deadline about the buzz in town to have the dynamic duo helm the hardest hosting job in television. “The Oscars, yes. This is something I really genuinely would love to do with Hugh,” Reynolds said while acknowledging the rumors swirling between the two of them. The 48-year-old actor noted the chemistry he had with his friend when they guest co-hosted The Late Show with Jimmy Kimmel on July 24.

It sounds like the two Hollywood besties even have a plan for how they would host the Oscars. “We got to Kimmel, and we just got loose. And it was, I thought, kind of an interesting way to host it. It feels like those old AFI dinners where everybody would get up there — they go from decades and decades ago all the way up to present day,” Reynolds recalled. “And they look like what you sort of hope the Oscars could feel like, right? A bit of a roast, a bit of a loose kind of enjoyable experience.”

Now that he’s got fans all fired up for what the Oscars could look like on March 2, 2025, are they going to host the show next year? Well, it doesn’t sound like it — at least not for the next ceremony. “One day I’d love to do that, I don’t know about this year, but one day, yeah,” he added. Right now, Reynolds wants to be a present dad for his four kids after his major press tour for Deadpool & Wolverine.

That means the search is still on after Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney both turned down the job, per Puck News. It was In Touch Weekly that started the Oscar buzz for Reynolds and Jackman. “Hugh and Ryan – as a team – are at the top of the Oscars’ wish list now that they’ve sealed their status as the two biggest movie stars of the year,” a source claimed.

Still, Reynolds’ wish to spend time with his family and Jackman’s swirling romance rumors with Sutton Foster seem to spell out that 2025 isn’t their year to host the show — but it may happen in the near future.
