Selena Gomez put to bed rumors she was 'high maintenance' before her romance with Benny Blanco, saying that men nowadays 'confuse standards with high maintenance'.
The Disney star and music producer have been publicly dating since Gomez confirmed their relationship in a string of Instagram comments at the end of 2023.
She adorably told one fan Blanco is 'my absolute everything in my heart', while the loved-up couple have heavily featured in each other's social media posts ever since.
But the previous year, prior to finding love with music maestro Blanco, Gomez spoke out about her dating standards in an interview with SiriusXM radio.
A short clip from the segment has since recirculated on social media as the Only Murders in the Building star denied being 'high maintenance'.
Discussing her track 'Single Soon', hosts Tony Fly and Symon were curious to know more about a particular line of the song.
Quoting the lyrics: "I know I'm a little high maintenance, but I'm worth a try / Might not give a reason why (oh well)," the hosts asked if Gomez really considered herself 'high maintenance'.
She replied: "I think I have standards, and I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high maintenance.
"The line was really fun because I'm not ashamed to say. I actually require X, Y, and Z for you to be with me. So in a way, it was just meant to be for the attitude of the song, and that's genuinely what I feel."
After some further questioning from the hosts, Gomez explained what her ‘X, Y and Z’ conditions were and, to be completely honest, it's a stretch believe anyone would call them high maintenance demands.

"You gotta be cool, man," she said. "Not cool in the sense that people think you're cool. You just gotta be nice and like, please make me laugh and also just be good to my family and people around you."
Gomez went on to say how she was content being single at the time and was comfortable with it.
"I think everybody goes through the phase of, 'Oh, it'd be nice to like have someone', and I get that," the singer continued.
"But you know, I'm just enjoying where I'm at and I just want to be happy with who I am so that whenever that person comes into my life, I can just have them add on to me instead of being this insecure, you know, person that I normally used to be.
"It's basically my way of saying it's totally okay being on your own and it's fun."

Ironically, Gomez and Blanco collaborated on 'Single Soon' presumably before they became official. This is like some magical, backwards manifestation from Gomez here.
The pair also worked on Blanco's 2021 track 'I Can’t Get Enough' alongside Tainy and J Balvin.
Let's learn from Gomez; keep your standards up, and the right person will follow.
