Sister Wives star Kody Brown admitted that he wanted to get back in his kids’ good graces before his son Garrison Brown died in March 2024.
“Janelle and I talking about reconciliation is a bulls–t pipe dream for both of us,” Kody, 55, said in a clip of the Sunday, November 3, episode shared by TLC via Instagram. “I talk about reconciling with her because I would like to be back in graces with my children.”
Kody continued, “I know that reconciling with her would require some kind of power game where I gave her all the power in the relationship which I think is fair because I had it for so many years, but I’m not interested in that. I think it’s a fake discussion for both of us, and the reason is because I think both of us – I’m telling you my heart’s truth – don’t want to be the one that’s accountable for breaking up.”
In the clip, Kody’s ex-wife Janelle Brown had approached Kody about buying out her share of their Coyote Pass property. However, the dad of 18 wanted to discuss their relationship before jumping to the conclusion that Janelle, 55, would move off the property.
“You jumped to the end,” Kody told Janelle over dinner. “What about us? What about you living on the property? What about you and me?”
Janelle was visibly confused before she told Kody that she didn’t feel like they “existed in the same universe anymore.”
She continued, “I think you’re awesome, and whenever we talk I still feel like you’ve got this little hook in me or whatever, but I’ve been so happy that I don’t foresee a long term thing for us.”
Kody, however, explained that he didn’t feel like he and Janelle had ever “really” talked about their relationship.
During a confessional, Janelle told producers that she was baffled by Kody saying that they hadn’t really discussed their relationship when she felt like they had gone over the topic multiple times.
“I don’t even know who he is anymore,” Janelle said. “He hasn’t been in my house for two years … We’ve had so many conversations where I’ve said, ‘It’s done, we’re done, we’re not compatible,’ and he’s agreed and he’s like, ‘Yeah, it’s really sad.’ Why are we talking about this? I feel like it’s almost a diversion tactic.”
Kody’s been estranged from several of his children, including Garrison before his death by suicide in March.
Recently Kody’s daughter Madison Brush (née Brown) seemed to take a dig at her dad by reposting a video from resilience coach Josh Connolly about toxic parents to her Instagram Stories.
“This is a reminder for anybody that’s grown up with a toxic parent. Holding clear and firm boundaries with somebody that’s been toxic and abusive to you your whole life is not the same as holding a grudge, just the same way that speaking the truth about your experiences at the hand of that toxic and abusive person is nothing like a smear campaign.” Josh, 37, said in the video. “In case anybody wants to question or ask about it, talking about abuse is not what rips families apart. Abuse does.”
