Let the new Squid Game begin … or end?

That’s the question after Seong Gi-hun, a.k.a Player 456, after winning the first season of Squid Game on Netflix, returns to try and end the mysterious survival game where Koreans gamble with their lives once and for all.

Asked at one point in the official trailer that dropped on Tuesday why he’s back in the arena, Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae, declares: “I’m trying to put an end to this game.” Whether other players opt out and end the survival game that has contenders fighting to the death for a big cash prize promises to be a major theme during the upcoming second season, which bows Dec. 26.

The official synopsis for the second season from Netflix reads: “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.”

The second season will also have Player 456 locked in a tense showdown with the Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun. Also returning to Squid Game for another season is Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo, while cast newcomers include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri and Won Ji-an.

Netflix’s most popular title of all time was created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who along with Netflix has already announced that a third final season is set to premiere in 2025.
