Susanna Reid came under fire from fans as she shared an update on Good Morning Britain.

After Monday's instalment (November 4) of the ITV programme, Susanna and co-host Ed Balls headed to Washington DC to bring GMB viewers exclusive coverage of the momentous US election.

The presenters were stationed in the US capital for three days as they followed the vote from start to finish, culminating in a historic win for Donald Trump and a devastating loss for Kamala Harris.

On Thursday (November 7), Susanna took to Instagram with a gallery of snaps to mark their time in Washington DC, announcing that she and Ed were soon returning to the UK.

The post featured a snap of the pair in between filming, an image of The Washington Monument and various shots of Trump and Harris merchandise.

"GOODBYE WASHINGTON DC! Thanks for watching our coverage of this historic election," Susanna wrote. Revealing when she will return to the ITV studio, the 53-year-old added: "Back @gmb Monday!"

However, the post attracted plenty of comments from fans who raised a number of complaints.

"Why are you even there??" asked one social media user as another echoed: "To be honest I don’t understand why we need a live feed from US, we need to concentrate more in UK."

Claiming the presenters didn't remain impartial following Trump's win, a third posted: "A shocking coverage by ITV."

Another declared: "Sorry you're both fuming but you should remain impartial," as someone else agreed: "Terrible biased coverage."

However, others praised the duo for their impressive coverage of the event, with one writing: "Enjoyed your coverage of the American election. Susanna, you and ed were very good. Have a safe journey back."

"Been there a wonderful historic place. Well done for your your coverage both," commented a second. Echoing this, another penned: "Great partnership on GMB really enjoy watch you both together @susannareid100 & @edballs."

It comes after GMB sparked backlash for its continued coverage of the US election. ITV viewers were left fuming as they begged the UK programme to report on news happening across the country.

Sharing their frustrations on social media, one wrote: "Yep they're not bothered about UK," as a second agreed: "It's done and most of us in the UK couldn't care less, enough already."

Another declared: "Can't watch this again. BBC it is. Least it's UK news."
