Chris Packham says he was targeted by obsessed Taylor Swift fans after he criticised the star’s use of private planes.
Taylor reportedly racked up 178,000 miles on her two jets last year during her sold-out globe-trotting Eras Tour. And Swifties swooped in to defend their favourite.
Campaigner Chris, who has been presenting Autumnwatch specials on The One Show this week, said: “They’re obsessed with her, aren’t they? It was, ‘Don’t pick on Taylor, go and pick on someone else,’ and ‘Why are you picking on her, she does so much good’. While she does make charitable gestures, she isn’t very charitable towards the planet and the future of her fans.

But setting an example for your fans to ensure their future should be mandatory as well, if you ask me. She’s someone who can exact influence. You might be using a private jet if you’re the head of a multinational company, but you don’t have millions of followers. She should be leading by example. She has the capacity to do that because she’s got so many followers.”
In February, Blank Space singer Taylor, 34, threatened legal action against Jack Sweeney, the creator of social media accounts that logged the movements of her jets, one of which she has now sold.
Southampton-born Chris, 63, will present a Halloween special on tomorrow’s One Show. It will explore how some animals – including bats, owls, crows and toads – earned their spooky reputation.
He announced this week he has reached a settlement with the government over its decision to drop green policies. Chris sued the previous Tory government late last year, arguing it acted unlawfully by delaying policies aimed at helping the UK reach net zero by 2050.
He said: “Policies were dumped without any thought for the impact on those plans or that government’s legal responsibilities under the Climate Change Act.” The Labour government will now publish a new report.
